This is historical romance. I bought it because I thought it would be a retelling of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" with a focus on the Headless Horseman. It's not. In fact, the legend is barely in the background of this story. If you like romance, you might like this book, but I should point out that the characters lack depth. They weren't deep enough for me to truly care about them. The protagonist, Katrina, is an unlikable brat, and her lover, Ichabod Crane, seems to have only one emotion: starry-eyed love toward Katrina. I will say that the ending of the novel was satisfying and contained the best writing of the entire novel, but it wasn't enough for me.

I enjoyed this one
Thoroughly enjoyed this new perspective of a favorite story. Seeing things from Katrina’s point of view focused on love and relationships as well as magic and legend. Even though I knew the ending of the story, I couldn’t wait to see Palombo’s twist.
I liked it. I personally felt there were times when it lingered around the same things over and over. I enjoyed Ichabod coming to life this way, the author gives him a romantic lead and it worked!
I enjoyed this telling of Sleepy Hollow's Headless Hessian. This telling focused on Katrina Van Tassel and her love for Ichabod Crane. The characters came alive for me and the story was well told. Never a dull moment from page one, I found I couldn't put the book down. You most likely know the story of Sleepy Hollow but Palombo's book creates an entirely new picture framed with the classic we love and know so well.
This was a good interesting read. I found the romance overshadowed the story a bit. I love a great romance don’t get me wrong, but it kind of dragged the first half and didn’t really pick up until the middle of the book. The story took off after that and turned out to be an enjoyable read! The title was a bit misleading also as Katrina was really not a witch and had no real spellbook. All in all I did enjoy this though!
The magic aspect was a bit more understated than I expected, but this was still a good book. I'll admit that I'd have preferred the real Headless Horseman to be more involved physically other than visiting Katrina in dreams and doing away with Brom at the end, but it was still a nice read.
A magnificent retelling of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow from Katrina’s perspective. The period details are lush and vivid, transporting the reader to rural New York in the full flush of autumn. The book is deeply atmospheric, but never at the expense of character. Katrina shines as a headstrong, spoiled-sweet heroine, chasing the life she desires. Love, longing, and loss all tug at your heartstrings, and you’ll feel your heart yearning right along with Katrina. An excellent read full of romance, mystery, and dark doings.
